A Message from MIBC Aquatics Director
Dear MIBC members: We are excited to announce our 2017 summer swim lessons program. This year the swim lessons program...
It was the early ’60s when Carter Harrington, a young flight school cadet, first heard of Mercer Island from a native and fellow pilot trainee. He was intrigued. Five years in the Navy followed with another twenty flying for FedEx. “Thirty years later I moved here,” he remembers. “The environment is great for kids. We’ve had three grow up at the Beach Club and do all the activities – swim, dive, tennis.” An active member of the Moorage Committee for over a decade, you’re likely to find Carter on the waterfront, perhaps manning a grill or helping another boater tie a cleat hitch. His love of sailing recalls a childhood in southern California where he and his family took weekend trips to Catalina and the Santa Barbara islands. Add to that three years aboard an aircraft carrier. “I got to know the ocean a little bit,” he laughs. Look for Carter at MIBC on New Year’s Day. He’ll be toasting the polar bear plungers with his friends. “We’ll have a shot of whiskey and watch everybody jump in.”
