The Heltzel family
1977. Jimmy Carter became President, Star Wars was released, and Seattle Slew won the Triple Crown. And the Heltzel family joined MIBC.
Tom has been active in Moorage, Landscape, Fitness and Finance committees. He led the effort to replace the E and F docks (2001-04), was a member of the Renewal Committee that oversaw the design and reconstruction of the Club (2005-06), served two terms on MIBC’s Board and was Club President in 2007-08. He is currently retired after 30+ years at IBM.
Carol rode the MIBC Ski Bus to Crystal Mountain and Stevens Pass in the 1980’s and worked on the Social Committee. During the summers she was a full time MIBC mom, shuttling kids back and forth to swim and dive teams and tennis lessons, captained the family water ski boat and was chef for frequent evening picnics at the Club.
Daughter Megan was active on Dive Team and water skiing. She and her family returned to MI in 2005 and joined MIBC, making their sons Tripp and Tyler third generation members. Though now living in California, her family returns each summer to enjoy Club activities with the grandparents.
Son Peter was a member of the Swim Team and still shares the Club record for the 200 Free Relay (1982). He worked on the grounds crew and as a life guard, and was married on the Club’s front lawn in 2008. Twins Kai and Ellie return to enjoy summer Club activities, swimming and chasing minnows with the grandparents.
Thank you, Tom and Carol. For forty years your family has epitomized the meaning of MIBC membership.
